Preliminary reports were given to students on Friday. Parent-teacher interviews are Thurs. Oct. 22. See Westdale Secondary School website for details. I will not be available for interviews on that day, so please leave contact information at the interview scheduling page if you wish a phone call.

learning goal: We are learning about Shakespeare.
  • Comparative Essays 
    • good copy due Tues. Oct. 20 - with cover page (Include title, your full name, ENG 2D1, date, submitted to: Ms.Kukhta-Jackson. You may add an image if you wish) and all draft work included. See photo for a summary of the order of your papers. Today, we asked everyone to check their essay to ensure it is in present tense. If not, fix it and submit your current copy as another draft. If not ready for today, hand it in on Mon. Oct. 26. It will not be marked late. After that date, no deduction of marks, but will be required to hand in a late explanation note signed by parent/guardian.
    • Sonnets
      • handout package from yesterday - read the 3 sonnets and discussed questions 3 - 8. Students made own notes. 
    • Shakespeare: in groups - discussion and submitted chart - What do you already know about Romeo and Juliet - the play and the ending? What do you think you know? What do you want to know?
      • poem handout: Dylan Thomas "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" and Robert Frost "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening". Read tonight, make notes about your insights on the poems and how they might relate to Romeo and Juliet.
    • Homework :
      • poem handout - Thomas and Frost - see above.
      • Comparative Essay - Good copy (including cover page and all draft work and ideas) due Mon. Oct. 26. See above for details.
        • Bring a book to read quietly in class for any time that you finish your class work early. Read regularly at home.

                  • Re-read chapter 6 of Notre-Dame de Paris and review questions if not already done.
