Site of the day: Good books to learn French 
ENG 2D
learning goal: We are learning how to write a comparative essay.
Comparative Essay checklist
  • Comparative Essays  
    • Handed back paper with topic - add thesis statement (Step #4) and submit by end of class.
    • Continue following steps on page 220 - 221 Writer's Workshop.  
      • Should have completed chart for generating ideas (Step #2) and outline Step #3 before class today to be on track for writing your essay. 
      • Finish to end of step #5 tonight. 
      • We will be in the computer lab tomorrow Thurs. Oct. 15 and Fri Oct 16 for writing and/or editing the draft and the good copy. Aim to have a draft done for Fri. Oct 16 and good copy submitted Tues. Oct. 20. 
    • In groups, finished reading and discussing in groups pages 226 - 227 "Mechanics and Design" and pages 228 - 230 "Usage and Style" after class lesson introduction. Just reading and discussing is fine, no need to complete the practice activities. Make sure you understand them and use them in your own essay.
    • Refer to checklist on  Google Docs open to all at this link: Comparative Essay checklist ENG2D You can still add to the checklist if you wish.
  • Homework: 
    • handout - comparison essays - see above. Finish to end of step #5 tonight. 
      • draft and editing should be completed Fri. Oct. 16
      • Good copy (including cover page and all draft work and ideas) due Tues. Oct. 20
    • Bring a book to read quietly in class for anytime that you finish your class work early. Read regularly at home.

    • chapter 5 - listened and read in class. Re-read for homework.
  • les devoirs: Should be spending 15 - 20 minutes daily on French home study Monday through Thursday. If all class work is completed, follow suggestions in:  Home Study extras
      • Re-read chapter 5 of Notre-Dame de Paris. 
      • blog - this week's suggested topics: la longue fin de semaine - ce que j'ai fait. See this post: Journal/blog FIF 1D or your assignment paper for details. You may also choose to work on updating your profile with an avatar and by following some of your classmates.
