- Continue planning for essay as summative assessment "How is the novel Speak a relevant book in 2016?" Should finish filling in most of graphic organizer distributed for planning. There is class time to work this week and computer time April 18, 20, 21. Link for essay assignment sheet and rubric. Handout distributed today. Today, discussed how to plan the first and last paragraphs with examples of Thesis Statement i.e."An examination of ______, ______, and ______ will demonstrate _______. " and transitional devices to link paragraphs. Transition Words and Phrases for Effective Writing - Writing Across the Curriculum, Transition Words for Essays & Transitional Words
- Homework: Get in the habit of doing 20 - 30 minutes of English homework every night Monday to Thursday. Review lessons, extend your knowledge or read.
- Speak - Essay planning - see above - Overdue: discussion notes and vocabulary sentences was due Fri Apr 8 and puzzles due yesterday, April 12.
- Independent reading. Bring a book to read quietly in class for any time that you finish your class work early. Read regularly at home.
