  • We enjoyed a delicious crêpe breakfast today with fresh local strawberries, bananas, jam, nutella, whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles... Merci à tout le monde de tout ce qu'ils ont apporté.
  • Une recette pour les Crêpes : 1 1/4 tasses de farine, un peu de sel, 1 1/2 tasses de lait, 3 ouefs, 3 cuillières de beurre fondue.
  • Brief discussion of le passé simple. See Express 11e livre pgs. 146 - 151 for more details.
  • Joel and Terry did great presentations on drumming and exchange to France.
  • Make sure to study using the exam outline. Do the review sheets, make your paragraph outlines, re-do tests and cahier work, make "cheat sheets" as a powerful study aid - way better than simply looking over your notes.
  • Tomorrow - on finira de lire "Le Petit Prince".

  • Finished (almost) all of the oral exams. Make sure to e-mail in your presentation story if you haven't done so yet. Aim to complete it for Fri. June 18, but the latest due date is June 22 at noon.
  • Did exam review sheets (handed out 4U sheets today) in class on own and in small groups.
  • Spend time studying tonight. The written exam is Fri. June 18 at 8:30 am.

  • How to prepare for listening exam tomorrow (in class) - get a good sleep and have a good breakfast. Try to read something in French before bed or watch a DVD in French to help your brain think in French while you sleep.

  • MovieMaker cooking show: check transitions and timing. Rehearse quietly how you will say your instructions and adjust timing as necessary.
  • Tomorrow: be ready for peer editing of your work.

  • Listening exam tomorrow. Prepare by getting a good sleep. Try to do some reading in French or watching a DVD in French before bed to help your brain think in French. Be sure to have a good breakfast. Stay relaxed and try some deep breathing using your diaphram instead of just your chest. See paper posted on First Class (also given in class) for specific types of questions on exam.
  • Reviewed le participe present.
  • Spent some time on preparing for oral exam. Use paper given (also posted on First Class).
  • Crepe day Wed. June 16. Ms. K-J will bring crepes. What will you contribute?

Continued work on MovieMaker cooking show. Today, reviewed work so far - making sure that have included:

  • titles
  • own name
  • recipe name
  • date (juin 2010)
  • ingredients and preparation sections are somehow distinguished from each other
  • 4 different ingredients and 4 different preparation steps (minimum)
  • images for each ingredient and step
  • some sort of ending for the recipe.

Started work on transitions between slides.

French

  • Practised le superlatif - mostly oral practice - and made short videos. C'était le meilleur cours!

  • Reminder: listening exam will be this Friday, June 11 in the computer lab 301. There will be check boxes, fill in the blank with different verb tenses and other grammar done this year, and a story to listen to and answer questions.
  • Finished and presented verb posters. We discussed various points about each of the verbs presented. There are photos (not high resolution) posted now on our First Class Parkside Modern Languages conference (see folder called: verb poster photos).
  • Listened to Doris Day sing "Que sera sera" from YouTube to help us remember the future tense of "être".
  • Went over the exam paragraph topics and how to prepare for that part of the exam.
  • Distributed handout explanations of "le participe présent" (gr.11) and "l'infinitif passé" (gr.12)
  • Spend 45 minutes on studying French tonight.

  • The class was mostly gr. 11 today (well, all gr. 11).
  • We did an oral activity to help prepare for the exam. We looked at photo # 9 of a baseball game and after 3 steps, we made mind-maps to indicate many, many possible points of view for the photo i.e. who or what could tell a story about the photo. Those mind-maps are now posted on the bulletin board.
  • We watched 3 "movies" to review the passé composé - avoir and être verbs.
  • Spend at least one hour on French this weekend!

  • Learned how to use adverbs such as "d'abord", "ensuite", "finalement" etc. using handout. We will be incorporating those into "Ma Bonne Recette" - the cooking show MovieMaker presentation project.

  • Looked at a beautiful photo of "La Baie des Anges" in the Côte d'Azur in the south of France and worked on vocabulary in groups, eventually doing a short oral presentation. This will help prepare you for the oral part of the exam.
  • Read Le Petit Prince ch. 16 & 17 and did 2 discussion questions in groups. If your group didn't finish, just read the chapters at home tonight.
