Site of the day: Languages with surprising origins

  • le passé composé - review and reading 2 articles - La Tour Eiffel & Il arrive. 
  • un article du journal (newspaper article) We will be writing a newspaper article using the past tense. Today, we discussed some aspects of a news report and students brainstormed ideas for their own article. Read some articles in English or French newspapers to be more familiar with the conventions i.e. facts, not opinions, answering qui/quoi/comment,.. questions.
  • les devoirs: Should be spending 15 - 20 minutes daily on French home study Monday through Thursday. If all class work is completed, follow suggestions in: Home Study extras

ENG 1D
learning goal: We are reading the novel "Speak".
  • Introduction to novel "Speak" - distributed books (students are responsible for taking care of and returning their assigned book at the end of this unit), discussed title, author, cover, excerpt on back cover, did anticipation guide and brainstormed (point form) ideas for Part II, watched trailer for film "Speak" ,  began reading - pages 3 - 18 - finish for tomorrow.
  • Examining writing style/language analysis - The Tell-Tale Heart - late - was due Thurs. Feb. 25. Can be submitted through Google Drive - make sure title includes name of assignment, your full name and FSF1D. Share with me: bkukhtaj@hwdsb.on.ca 
  • Homework: Get in the habit of doing 20 - 30 minutes of English homework every night Monday to Thursday. Review lessons, extend your knowledge or read.
    • Speak - read pages 3-18
    • Ask parents/guardians about favourite childhood books. Reread one of those books. 
    • Independent reading. Bring a book to read quietly in class for any time that you finish your class work early. Read regularly at home.

      • Short composition. Use success criteria. Use editing tools such as Bon Patron to create good copy. May be created on Google Drive - be sure to name document using your full name and FSF2D as part of the title and make sure to copy and paste the draft before editing into good copy.

        • Le songage: Les goûts de notre classe - reading, speaking and writing activity. Started sharing food expressions in English and equivalent in French.
