Award Assembly was this morning.  Congratulations to all the honour roll students and award winners.  Thank you to the audience who were attentive and appreciative.  Thank you to all staff and students who helped to organize and run such a great event.  Thank you to our guest presenters.  Mostly, thank you to all of our parents for raising such great kids.

  • Went to computer lab to work on "Ma Journée".  Some students worked on the computer and some are writing by hand.  Either is fine. 
  • If done, some students started work on putting the 2 paragraphs together in a simulated web page, Livre de Visage, scrapbook etc.  This will be the last phase of the project.  More details to come...
  • Devoirs: Ma Journée - bonne copie - dû demain (le 22 oct).  Make sure to hand in all parts stapled in order - cover page, good copy (double-spaced), peer editing page, draft(s), outline/planning sheet (clock or table), brainstorming sheet(s).

  • Some students worked in a small group tutorial session on l'imparfait & le passé composé.
  • Finished watching "17 Again" and began "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

  • Worked on adding to the idea/brainstorm sheet for next paragraph "Ma Journée" by looking at livre pgs. 16 - 17 & 21 and writing/adapting/personalizing sentences that express your own day.  We discussed how to use the writing process to produce a better final product than simply writing a paragraph in English then using a web translator.  We suggested an experiment: type a paragraph from the French textbook and ask the translator to change it to English, or, make your own paragraph in English, then translate it to French, to German, to a couple of other languages, then back to English to see how many mistakes will be in that final English paragraph.  Results can be very funny!
  • Finished watching "Shrek" and started "Mr. Bean's Holiday".

Reminder: Re-tests are available for many of the tests and quizzes that we do, but, don't depend on them.  Always be as prepared as possible for each class (as if there might be a "pop quiz" on any day on anything already covered) and especially be ready for a scheduled test or quiz.  Use effective study methods, not just reading over your notes.  Re-tests are more work than being ready for the original test i.e. you must show that you have corrected the original test, you must show further evidence that you have studied, and you must make arrangements to do the re-test at lunch or after school.

  • We made posters in groups to illustrate the use of l'imparfait vs. le passé composé in continued vs. sudden action (the interruption).
