  • Students should complete all of the following work over the 2 days in class individually or in small groups, and, if needed, for homework. I will be checking their work on Friday.

    • Read the story – handout given on Monday. May wish to make notes on the handout as they read.
    • Optional – read the book – on shelf under the window. Please return book neatly when done.
    • Answer questions – handout – may work with partner or small group, but each person needs to record answers.
    • Write a short summary of the story (10 – 12 sentences). This will be handed in on Friday. May work with partner/small group – only one summary submitted per group – make sure all names of group members are written on paper to be submitted.

Classroom procedures

This is a guideline for some of the procedures in Ms.K-J's classes to help keep the class running effectively and respectfully.  As always, the one rule is "Soyez respectueux".

  • Arrive on time with all your materials (books, binder, writing utensils).
  • If you arrive late, go to your desk quietly.  Make sure that you see the teacher at an appropriate time (without interupting the teacher or the class) to ensure that your attendance is changed to "Late" instead of "Absent".
  • There is no assigned seating plan.  You are free to choose your desk each day.  Keep in mind that sometimes sitting with friends is not the best place to work the most efficiently.  The teacher will ask you to move to a different seat if necessary.
  • French is the language of our classroom.  Do your best to only speak in French.  You will be pleased with the improvements you will make.
  • IPads, cell phones and electronic devices can be very useful tools and are welcome as long as they are used appropriately i.e. for on-line dictionaryBescherelle verb conjugations, for word processing etc, not for texting with friends and family.
  • Backpacks, large bags and coats belong in your locker.  If you do need to bring a backpack, store it under your desk to avoid tripping hazards.
  • Food and beverages: allowed, as long as students stay neat and tidy.  Dispose of any garbage and recycling properly.  
  • Dismissal will be at the end of the period, by the teacher.  Gather your materials, push in your chair (or put it up on the desk on cleaning days) and check that you haven't left anything behind.
  • Bathroom breaks:  Students are encouraged to take care of their personal needs (i.e. washroom, drink of water) during the breaks before and after each class.  Please do not ask to leave the room for the first or last 15 minutes of class or during a lesson.
  • Leaving the classroom during the period: Sign out and in using the binder by the door.
  • Homework: We generally have some home study each evening from Monday to Thursday.  As much as possible, homework is not assigned on weekends.  This is your credit.  Reviewing and practicing lessons will make the work much easier for you, and much easier for the teacher to give you the highest mark possible.
  • Freedom and responsibility go together.
  • Work together to help each other understand the lessons as best possible.  Co-operation and collaboration are beneficial for all students and can lead to better independent results.  (There is still work that must be done on your own.)

le but d'apprentissage (learning goal): Introduire le cours.
FIF 2D, FSF 1D and FIF 1D 
  • Gave course outlines and went over together. Read with your parents/guardians, sign bottom and keep in your binder. If you need a binder, ask. There are extras in the Westdale "Walk-in Closet".
  • Organize a binder with 4 dividers. See course outline for labels.
  • Went over some classroom rules/procedures - see post labelled "Classroom procedures" for details.
  • Filled in "Student Information" handout.
  • Introduced the one classroom rule: Soyez respectueux. What does that look like?  Wrote ideas on handout to use in a group activity on Monday.
  • Discussed why not to use Google translate (or other computer translation tools) and watched video Fresh Prince: Google Translation.  FIF 1D also watched some of the "Avez-vous deja vu?" short videos.
  • Pas de devoirs pour la fin de semaine.
