• write in a variety of forms, adjusting the language to suit the purpose and the audience;

• use correct grammar and appropriate language conventions in their written work.

It is suggested that the student write an introduction of themselves and their goals for this assignment as their first entry and a reflection of how well they accomplished these goals or on the experience of writing a weekly journal/blog as their last entry

Each week, there will be a topic suggested for the students, but they are always free to choose their own topic.  Refer to the teacher’s blog www.ms-k-j.blogspot.com for an entry titled “FSF 3U weekly suggested journal topics” or another titled “journal topic ideas” for other ideas if needed.

The student may choose to include images, illustrations or photos (entirely optional).

 Assessment (marking):

o   Application: Complete: _10_entries (mostly in French, but some English words allowed, about 10 – 12  sentences each, date and topic for each entry)

o   Communication: Indicate best 3 entries to be assessed for a level in Communication (i.e. how well would a Francophone be able to understand what you wrote?)

o   Thinking/Inquiry:  When you choose your best entries, please be aware that they will also be assessed for a level of self-reflection.  Entries with a component of depth will be assessed at a higher level than those recording only factual events.

le but d'apprentissage (learning goal): Nous apprenons comment parler et écrire de nous-mêmes. 
  • Moi-même 
    • oral: recording in library with iPads.   Used "ScreenChomp" app.  May use index cards with very brief notes.  Students may think about what they will say, but are cautioned to not practice as it is intended as a base-line assessment of la production orale, not as a prepared speech.  We will repeat this in January so that we can assess the progress made over the semester.
    • When finished recording and sending link to me, may use iPads to help with written assignment or to practice verbs or numbers or other apps that help you learn French.  Explore a bit.
    • écrit (the writing process):  Possibly time to work on brouillon - due Fri Sept 13, must be double-spaced on paper for editing, so print it if prepared on computer but handwritten is fine.  Follow directions on handout given Monday.

  • did activity "Soyez respectueux - comment le montrer" to set the norms of our class.  We will complete the posters tomorrow.
  • Talked about the importance of always speaking French in class and keeping up with the daily work .  Spend time every day reviewing work done in class and completing any work assigned for homework.  French will become easier and more fun, (and your marks will increase)
  • les devoirs: Think about the things you do to show respect, organize binder with dividers and get signature on course outline if not already done.

  • Went over some classroom rules/procedures - see post labelled "Classroom procedures" for details.
  • Filled in "Student Information" handout.
  • FSF 3U only: speaking activity - moi-même - Short preparation, then talked about self.
  • Introduced the one classroom rule: Soyez respectueux. What does that look like?  Wrote ideas on handout to use in a group activity on Monday.
  • Discussed why not to use Google translate (or other computer translation tools) and watched video Fresh Prince: Google Translation
  • les devoirs:  Finish filling in "Comment montrer du respect" handout for group activity tomorrow.
