Site of the day: Good books to learn French 
ENG 2D
learning goal: We are learning how to write a comparative essay.
Comparative Essay checklist
  • Comparative Essays 
    • Worked in Computer lab 319 today. 
    • Handed back thesis statement.
    • Continue following steps on page 220 - 221 Writer's Workshop.  
      • Should have completed chart for generating ideas (Step #2) and outline Step #3 before class today to be on track for writing your essay. 
      • Write your draft. Aim to complete it by the end of class Fri Oct 16. If possible, complete before the end of class to allow time for editing.
      • We will be in the computer lab tomorrow again Fri Oct 16 for writing and/or editing the draft and the good copy. Aim to have a draft done for Fri. Oct 16 and good copy submitted Tues. Oct. 20.

  • Homework: 
    • handout - comparison essays - see above. 
      • draft and editing - aim to complete Fri. Oct. 16
      • Good copy (including cover page and all draft work and ideas) due Tues. Oct. 20
    • Bring a book to read quietly in class for anytime that you finish your class work early. Read regularly at home.

    • Notre-Dame de Paris 
      • chapter 5 - re-read in groups and worked on Ex. 1, 2 & 3 - discussion and answers. Exercise d'écoute - assessed
    • les devoirs: Should be spending 15 - 20 minutes daily on French home study Monday through Thursday. If all class work is completed, follow suggestions in:  Home Study extras
        • Re-read chapter 5 of Notre-Dame de Paris. Finish questions if not already done. 
        • blog - this week's suggested topics: la longue fin de semaine - ce que j'ai fait. See this post: Journal/blog FIF 1D or your assignment paper for details. You may also choose to work on updating your profile with an avatar and by following some of your classmates.

      • Speaking activity:  Avez-vous déjà vu? Un Boys-Band de poussins & Des moutons qui organizent un pique-nique
      • listening assessment - Tu parles cahier pg 16 Ex. P, track 1.5
      • speaking - presentation - introducing a friend. Tu parles cahier pg. 17 (handout). Introduced and formed groups. Some students started interviews. Tomorrow, we will complete interviews and plan and practice the presentation. Presentations will be Mon Oct 19 after a chance to rehearse in class. To achieve level 4, students must not use any notes and must sound like a real conversation.
