Preliminary reports were given to students today. Parent-teacher interviews are Thurs. Oct. 22. See Westdale Secondary School website for details. I will not be available for interviews on that day, so please leave contact information at the interview scheduling page if you wish a phone call.

Comparative Essay checklist
  • Comparative Essays 
    • Worked in Computer lab 319 today. 
    • Continue following steps on page 220 - 221 Writer's Workshop.  
      • Continue to write your draft. Aim to complete it by the end of class Fri Oct 16. If possible, complete before the end of class to allow time for editing. Share your draft with at least one classmate through Google Drive or a paper copy and help each other to improve the essay. 
      • Talked about cover page. Include title, your full name, ENG 2D1, date, submitted to: Ms.Kukhta-Jackson. You may add an image if you wish.
      • good copy due Tues. Oct. 20 - with cover page and all draft work included. See below for a photo of a summary of the discussion. If not ready for Oct. 20, hand it in on Mon. Oct. 26. It will be late, but there are no marks deducted. After that date, still no deduction of marks, but will be required to hand in a late explanation note signed by parent/guardian.
    • Refer to checklist on  Google Docs open to all at this link: Comparative Essay checklist ENG2D and to rubric given in class today.
  • No homework if all caught up for the work this week.
    • handout - comparison essays - read "Word Study and Spelling". Use to improve draft and good copy.
      • draft and editing - aim to complete Fri. Oct. 16
      • Good copy (including cover page and all draft work and ideas) due Tues. Oct. 20
    • Bring a book to read quietly in class for any time that you finish your class work early. Read regularly at home.

        • Notre-Dame de Paris: Checked and corrected ch. 5 ex. 1, 2 & 3.
        • le film de vendredi: On Fridays, we usually watch a film in French with French subtitles where available as a part of the Listening Strand of the curriculum and also for Francophone culture. Today, we watched Notre-Dame de Paris musical.
          • Pas de devoirs pour la fin de semaine as long as all caught up. Students may wish to do some review or practice. See suggestions below.
            • blog - this week's suggested topics: la longue fin de semaine - ce que j'ai fait. See this post: Journal/blog FIF 1D or your assignment paper for details. You may also choose to work on updating your profile with an avatar and by following some of your classmates.

          • speaking - presentation - introducing a friend. Tu parles cahier pg. 17 (handout). Did interviews and planned and practiced the presentation. Presentations will be Mon Oct 19 after a chance to rehearse in class. To achieve level 4, students must not use any notes and must sound like a real conversation.
