Site of the day: 5 Québécois expressions translated much too literally into English

  • le passé composé vs. l'imparfait
    • Test - le mardi 19 avril. 
  • Adding interest, avoiding repetition - introduction, lesson - revising a boring, repetitive paragraph - using pronouns
  • Literature circles - iMovie trailer & personal connection statement (1 minute or so individual speaking - video or live i.e. panel discussion) on Thurs. April 21
  • les devoirs: Should be spending 15 - 20 minutes daily on French home study Monday through Thursday. If all class work is completed, follow suggestions in: Home Study extras

learning goal: We are learning about writing an essay for the novel Speak.
  • Speak - essay "How is the novel Speak a relevant book in 2016?" Use graphic organizer completed for planning. Today, learned about quotations, referencing, plagiarism, how to write an introduction, being specific - avoiding vague or awkward wording, formal vs. informal language, Finished with a reflection/self-assessment "How am I doing so far?" - using the rubric previously distributed and today's lesson.
    • There is class time to work this week and computer time April 18, 20, 21. Link for essay assignment sheet and rubric. Handout distributed last week. See post on Thurs April 14 for examples of thesis statement and transitional words. 
  • Homework: Get in the habit of doing 20 - 30 minutes of English homework every night Monday to Thursday. Review lessons, extend your knowledge or read.
    • Speak - Essay writing- see above. Should have draft typed for class tomorrow.
    • Independent reading. Bring a book to read quietly in class for any time that you finish your class work early. Read regularly at home.
